Title Review

Presently, all Buddhist literature, particularly of the Mahayana Buddhist genres, is to be found in Tibetan only – even if the corpus of Kagyur and Tengyur exist in the Indian Buddhist literatures too. No doubt, their commentaries as well as other kinds of indigenous literature are written in Tibetan. This book offers the Hindi and English translations of seven important Tibetan texts ascribed to Sakyamuni Buddha, Indian adepts, and Tibetan scholars. One of these is from Kagyur, three from Tengyur, and also three from Sungbum – including Prajnaparamitra’s Hrdaya (The Heart Sutra), Prajnasatka’s The One Hundred Wise Sayings, and Asta-Cittasuddhi-Pada: Eight Verses on Mind Cleaning. The book also carries the original Tibetan texts; besides their Hindi and English versions.

Dr Sanjib Kumar Das is Associate Professor in the Department of Indo-Tibetan Studies, Visva-Bharati University, Shantiniketan.
