The book is a study of the Vedic age: the Vedas and the Vedic literature, importance of the devas and the yajnas, fame during the Vedic period, the caste system, the battles, warriors and weapons referred to in the literature and the concept of jivan-mukta or salvation. Quoting liberally from the Vedas, it begins with the Vedic suktas on creation and the theories of cosmogony in the religious texts. It discusses the nature of the Brahman and the atman, shraddha, yoga, meditation and the role of a wise teacher in leading aspirants towards the goal of salvation.
