Title Review

The book is a distressing narrative presenting the pitiful plight of the poor, who are deprived of their share in their own production. The farmer, who grows for the country’s vast population, is migrating in search of food and even commits suicide out of hunger. The rural congregations suffer due to failure of monsoon, non-availability of employment in agriculture, low wages, increase in the cost of agricultural production, and market vagaries. The book not only deals with the predicament of poor people engaged in agriculture, but also sets out solution from the Bible by tracing various biblical periods from Egyptian slavery to the times of early church. The book is a contribution to the Christian theology in India, with a special focus on food production, distribution, and consumption.

Rev Dr Samuel Rajadurai is a presbyter, working in Thiruchirapalli-Thanjavur Diocese Church of South India (CSI).
