This book is based on a workshop on “Participatory Assessment of Sustainable Scenarios for the Himalayan Pastoralism”, which focused on identifying crucial issues and determining priorities in order to address rangeland concerns, especially in the light of managing such remote areas at high elevations, sparsely populated, and subject to harsh climates.

A total of 16 analytical papers contributed by experts from all over India, as compiled in the book, seek to address three principal areas of concern: Pastoral issues and development, Biodiversity and grazing resource availability, and Range resource management. The book as a whole provides a comprehensive account and analysis of existing information and statistical data on pastoralism, pastoral communities and biological resources, in the Indian Himalayan context and should thus be of high value for the concerned scholars.
