The volume takes up important plays of the famous playwright, Girish Karnad, for study with a view to examine his perspective and presentation of women in his plays. It discusses the playwrights right from the inception of Indian drama in English with special reference to dramatisaiton of women characters. It deals with the plays Yayati, Tughlaq, Hayavadana, Naga-Mandala, Tale-Danda, The Fire and the Rain, Broken Images and others of Karnad, analysing the individual female characters of the plays. Referring to comments of learned critics, it brings out Karnad’s representation of the mind and behaviour of women, their efforts to fulfil their desires and the crises through which they pass.
