Title Review

It is a painstakingly researched study trying to trace afresh the Early Evolutionary History of India, its origin, stages of its development, the urban stage of its settlement, its interactions with other contemporary cultures, and its decline – in a chronological framework. Taking a close, analytical look at the archaeological excavations carried out in the last three decades, together with the structural and artefactual data they have unveiled, the author puts India’s early evolutionary history and its various attendant issues in right perspective, dispelling certain myths stemming from the theories, perceptions, and misinterpretation of some of the well-known archaeologists of the past. Professor Sahi also identifies the indigenous and external elements in the process of evolution.

Dr M.D.N. Sahi is former Professor of Archaeology and Ancient History, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh.
