Title Review

The volume discusses one of India’s most revered theatre directors, Kavalam Narayana Panikkar. The essays by India’s finest theatre writers and thinkers delve into the styles and sources of Panikkar’s theatre, giving insight into the theatre of K. N. Panikkar and dealing with the production of his plays. They present him as the only Indian theatre director in whose theatrical practice elements of abhinaya or acting including storytelling, costumes and props, are poetically balanced yet these are able to maintain their independent existence. They provide his unique interpretation of characters. The book includes a conversation with K. N. Panikkar that involves a discussion on the production of his renowned play, Ottayan.
