The study emphasises on the philosophical and social issues related to people born with reproductive or sexual anomaly that does not fit the typical definition of male or male. It discusses the scientific theories and opinions about what constitutes sex and the meaning of gender. It deals with ways to prevent abuse of rights and protection of rights of the “intersex’ people—to whom assigning a particular sex from the appearance of external genitalia is difficult. Referring to observations by the UN Human Rights Commission and reports at the international level, it examines need for social understanding among families having newborn intersex children and the plight of the intersex people.
