Title Review

Lhops (Doyas) are one of the least known indigenous and socially distinct group of mongoloid people of the hilly State of Bhutan. They have been existent in the southern Bhutan as ‘original inhabitants’ since time immemorial. Based on intensive field work and personal interaction of the author with the Doyas -- the present study offers an ethnographic account of the Doya ways of life. Also covers: their social organization, kin terms and relations, economy and livelihood pattern and the impact of the changing socio-economic environment on their traditional economy. Included is a select bibliography, glossary of terms, subject index and over 30 b/w photographs.
