Title Review

Part I of the book reports various judicial proceeding and court judgements with respect to book-banning petitions in India and the govt attempt at banning the books taking shelter of secularism and articles 153 and 295 of the Indian Penal Code -- particularly with respect to banning the books ''Hindu view of Christianity and Islam'' and ''Understanding Islam through Hadis'' both authored by Ram Swarup Sharma, Salman Rushdie''s ''The Satanic Verses'', and detention of Sita Ram Goel as publisher of a reprint of the book ''The Dead Hand of Islam''. And includes various articles by intellectuals and journalists published in Newspapers to condemn the attempt of government banning the books -- viewed as an attempt to prevent free inquiry into the history and doctrines of religions. Part II reproduces twelve reviews of the book ''Why I am not a Muslim'' by Ibn Warraq published in USA in 1995, and an article by Shabir Akhtar spelling out what Islam means vis-a-vis freedom of expression.
