Focusing on the most crucial period of political developments in the history of Vietnam, 1960-1975, the present study is a painstakingly carried out research work analysing the origins, expansion and modus operandi of the National Front for the Liberation (NLF) of South Vietnam and its role in Vietnamese politics. Drawing from a close study of a variety of primary source materials, the author examines and discusses: the factors responsible for the success of the NLF, the stakes of the non-communist governments, the working of the NLF as a revolutionary party, its relations with the Communist and non-Communist world, and the steps taken by it towards the country''s unification.
