With text in English and French, the book showcases the socio-economic and cultural life of Bangladesh through a study of its high quality and exquisitely-designed posters for stage plays. It examines some 100 posters designed for stage plays which, of exceptional aesthetic quality and brilliance, have even surpassed the plays for which they were meant in terms of artistic value. It delves into the relationship between themes of plays and the way the poster designers have approached them when drawing the posters. The colourful reproductions of the posters highlight the Bangladeshi liberation way, class struggle, rights of peasants and a host of other themes. A background is provided on evolution of poster art in Bangladesh against the country’s political scenario over the decades.
