Title Review

The research focuses on the eco-perceptions of the Ranthambhore sanctuary, examining the impact of this national park on the socio-economic life of the local people and their views, responses and participation in the sanctuary. Using many photographs, figures and tables, Dr Sharma analyses the negative effects on the sanctuary owing to unauthorised grazing, heavy tourist pressure and collection of non-wood forest products and stones by the locals and the resulting management problems. The people''s problems as a result of lack of major industries and irrigation dams in the area and crop raiding by wild animals, apart from other factors, are scrutinised.

Dr Sharma has received the U G C Career Award in 1979.
