Title Review

The work presents an interesting account of Buddhist monuments in Bodh Gaya and nearby, both ancient and modern. It gives the story of the relevance of Bodh Gaya through history—how the monuments have been altered through time. It features a discussion of the famous Mahabodhi temple complex and its monuments/sacred sites like the Bodhi tree, Tara Temple, Jewel Walk, Gateway, Buddhapad, the Great Buddha Statue and stupas nearby. It surveys the stone sculptures of Buddha figures, Brahmanical images and miniature stupas around the Mahabodhi temple compound. With maps and layout plans of the sites and photographs, it also discusses Buddhist pilgrimage sites like Rajgir and Vikramshila.
