Based on a comprehensive study in the Patharbandha slum, Bhubaneshwar, Odisha, the book focuses on the life of the slum children, particularly their socialisation, education and perspectives on the world around them. Based on interactions with families in the slums, it throws light on the day-to-day activities of the children and the many concerns of the families related to satisfying the basic needs of life. It throws light on the distinctive personalities and stories of the slum children which are accounts of sorrow, joy and anguish. It highlights the role the schools should play to equip themselves better in making the children’s dreams come true and help them overcome challenges.
