Except a couple of invited papers, the remaining 24 papers, as compiled in this book, are the revised version of the presentations of an international seminar on “Water Crisis in the Indian Subcontinent: Issues and Challenges”, organised at North East Hill University, Shillong, India: November, 2009. Various water related issues and challenges—crisis of excess water, water scarcity, water resource management, quality of water, water resource assessment flood havoc and its management, water logging, hydropolitics, etc.—have been examined in these papers, theoretically as well as empirically (in the specific context of different parts/countries of the Indian subcontinent). The publication as such should be a great attraction not only for the concerned scholars and researchers but also water managers, planners and policy-makers since it offers valuable suggestions for better water management and rational sharing of water resources in the region.
