Traditional knowledge of medicinal plants is now considered to play a vital role in addressing the health care needs of indigenous people. Western Satpuda area of the Indian state of Maharashtra has centuries old traditions of health care using medicinal plants and animal parts. Drawing upon years of extensive field survey and personal interaction of the author with local tribal populations, the present study attempts to document the use of over 200 plant species and 15 animal parts in traditional health care system of the area. Enriched with colour photographs of over 150 plant species, the book also contains details of geology of the region, its forests, and socio-cultural and religious life of the local tribal people.
