Title Review

Jawaharlal Nehru and Sardar Patel are two among the most well-known freedom fighters of India. Their role in nation-building after the independence is pioneering and crucial. This collection brings together for the first time, correspondence between Nehru and Patel. It offers an important insight into the aspects of consensus and differences in their views on policies and practices during the freedom struggle and after. Despite their individual difference on the policies they persued, the compilation shows, a noticeable thread of unity in their overall perspective. The included pieces have been placed in the book under three thematic sections: Consent and Convergence; Differences Within Agreement; and Reverberations of Differences. A brief introduction by the editor puts the material in proper historical perspective. No doubt, the collection inspires as much as it informs.
