Title Review

Dr John Panicker examines the Gandhian pluralistic approach to diversity in religion and culture to emphasise the significance of pluralistic interpretation of religious scriptures. Surveying the communal landscape of the Gandhian period, he focuses on Gandhi’s understanding of religious texts and concepts based on the principle of communal harmony. He takes up Gandhian interpretation of advaita and the Jaina concept of anekantavada. The work shows the way Gandhi attempted a new understanding of identity, difference, duality and other concepts to help in reconciliation among religions. It analyses Hindu, Christian and Islamic approaches to religious pluralism by quoting from their scriptures.
