Title Review

Defining Buddhist studies and viewing it as combining scientific and traditional studies and subsuming both Buddhist doctrine and philosophy, the book deals with the outlines of some aspect of Buddhist studies related to the thought of Gautama the Buddha and his authorised disciples, Nagarjuna, Asanga, Vasubandha, Aryadeva, Shantideva and others. It examines the course of Buddhism in Bengal, Buddhist sacred places from pilgrimage, characteristics and significance of the stupas, Tibetan astro-science and its compendium, and the four noble truths among the Buddhist schools and their significance. It tries to keep the current political and moral perspectives in mind while examining topics related to specific schools and sects such as the Theravada as Vibhajjyaveda, the philosophy of Nagarjuna on fundamental reality, meditation and aspects of the Shakya school of Tibetan Buddhism.
