This collection of over 15 contributed essays deals with issues of ethics, health and medicine from an anthropological perspective. The issues analyzed and covered in the volume range from ethics in diverse medical systems, ethics in the context of medical pluralism in practice, ethno-medicine, reproductive and sexual health matters, ethics in contexts of disaster and violence, emergency medical care, and fieldwork ethics pertinent to anthropologists engaged in fieldwork in medical anthropology. With a number of field survey based case studies from different parts of the country, the book contributes notably to the development of medical anthropology in India. A majority of the included pieces are a revised version of the presentations of a national seminar sponsored by ISSR (Indian Council of Social Science Research).
